This presentation is based on our experience with over 300 children diagnosed with Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder (ANSD). We will describe the characteristics of these children and the interdisciplinary approach needed for their diagnosis/management. Case studies will illustrate typical as well as atypical presentations of the disorder and the importance of appropriate medical evaluation including genetics and radiographic studies. 1020 Fine Tuning an Inclusive Model for Children With Hearing Loss: Optimizing Outcomes & Interprofessional Practice TH 10:15AM-12:15PM / CC, 107C (Lvl 1) Intermediate; Research AUTHOR(S): Meredith Ouellette, The River Sch; Elizabeth Adams Costa, The River Sch; Julia Reid, Chattering Children; Nancy Mellon, The River Sch Over 92% of children with cochlear implants in our inclusive model develop age appropriate vocabularies within 18-months and reading and spelling skills within 36-months. Longitudinal data is used to inform interprofessional and classroom practice. Over 18 years, assessment has been used to adapt elements of the model to optimize outcomes for children with CIs, increasing their rate of language acquisition. INNOVATIONS, DEBATES, AND HOT TOPICS IN THE DISCIPLINE (GI) 1021 Revolutionary Approaches to Advancing the Translation of Research into Real-World Settings TH 10:15AM-12:15PM / CC, 260 (Lvl 2) Intermediate; Research AUTHOR(S): Kathryn Yorkston, U of Washington; Megan Morris, U of Colorado Anschutz Med Campus; Michelle Stransky, Tufts U; Elaine Mormer, U of Pittsburgh; Joel Stevans, U of Pittsburgh; Natalie Douglas, Central Michigan U; Howard Goldstein, U of South Florida; Meaghan McKenna, U of South Florida To demonstrate the value of our services, Communication Sciences and Disorders would benefit from research approaches commonly used in other disciplines. We will discuss four approaches: health services research, quality improvement, implementation science, and researcher-practitioner partnerships. This seminar will highlight skillsets and frameworks associated with these approaches, and their potential for supporting translation and integration of evidence into real-world settings. INTERPROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION (GI) 1022 Inter-Professional Collaboration: Strategies to Restore Voice to Patients Who Are Trach & Ventilator Dependent TH 10:15AM-12:15PM / CC, 212 (Lvl 2) Intermediate; Prof Educ AUTHOR(S): Maribel Ciampitti, Curahealth Hosp; Gail Sudderth, Passy-Muir, Inc. This presentation will be presented by an SLP and RCP. Candidacy and patient selection for in-line valve trials will be discussed. The RCP will provide instruction for the SLP on basic ventilator terminology and settings. The inter- professional process for implementing in-line speaking valve use will be demonstrated using a ventilator instructional teaching observation model (VITO). Troubleshooting tips will be covered. 1023 Leading Innovation in IPE/ IPP in Audiology & Speech- Language Pathology Graduate Programs TH 10:15AM-12:15PM / CC, 210C (Lvl 2) Intermediate; Prof Educ AUTHOR(S): Alex Johnson, MGH Inst; Patricia Prelock, U of Vermont; Carmen Vega- Barachowitz, Mass General Hosp; Elizabeth Adams, U of Vermont; Mary Knab, MGH Inst This session is developed by, and presenters invited by, Interprofessional Collaboration. Interprofessional Education (IPE) and Practice (IPP) discussions are prominent in academic settings. Problems associated with poor collaboration and communication are well documented in the health care literature and have been an area of frustration in inclusive educational settings. This seminar provides the rationale for IPE/IPP and offers practice examples in audiology and speech- language pathology. LANGUAGE AND LEARNING IN SCHOOL-AGE INDIVIDUALS (SLP) 1024 Best Practice in the Schools to Ensure Best Outcomes for Students TH 10:15AM-12:15PM / CC, 257AB (Lvl 2) Intermediate; Prof Educ AUTHOR(S): Joan Mele-McCarthy, The Summit Sch; Kenyatta Rivers, U of Central Florida; Judy Rudebusch Rich, Consultant; Carol Westby, Bilingual Multicultural Svcs; Kathleen Whitmire, Consultant Variations in state and local interpretation of federal education law too often result in school policies and practices inconsistent with research, ASHA policies, and even federal mandates. This session addresses four common issues and presents solutions in terms of (1) the evidence base, (2) IDEA requirements, (3) ASHA policies, and (4) examples of best practice from states/districts
