SLPs must be trauma-informed and prepared to deal with disruptive behaviors for effective service delivery. In this session, we will discuss evidence-based approaches for supporting positive behavior in children. Additionally, we will cover strategies to de- escalate difficult behaviors in children with communication disorders. Acquiring more than communication skills, results support increase in empathy, self-worth and satisfaction across the participants. Specific clinical approaches and cases will be shared to provide a tangible model that SLP’s can adopt for LPAA goal setting in their own environment. 1239 Exploring Outcomes by Race/Ethnicity With the ASHA NOMS TH 6:30PM-7:30PM / CC, 257AB (Lvl 2) Intermediate; Research AUTHOR(S): Gloriajean Wallace, Howard U; Robert Mullen, ASHA For this study, data from the ASHA NOMS was used to explore outcomes for Whites, African Americans, and Latinos/Hispanics with aphasia who were outpatients and residents of skilled nursing facilities. Data for 27, 000 cases were analyzed for the years 1998-2016 to compare outcomes by race/ethnicity. Topics will include integrating evidence-based practices into rehearsals, navigating linguistic and music-based challenges, and fostering group cohesion and pride.
