The Call for Papers

The Call for Papers for the 2023 ASHA Convention in Boston is closed. Notifications of acceptance/non-acceptance will be emailed to all authors in mid-July. Please e-mail papers@asha.org if you have any questions.

About the Program

The ASHA Convention is the strongest professional education program for audiologists, speech-language pathologists, speech and hearing scientists, and related professionals. The 2023 ASHA Convention will primarily be an in-person event in Boston, but we are still offering some virtual sessions. (We are not considering it a true hybrid event, since that term typically applies to a robust and equal online experience.)

All education sessions are eligible for ASHA Continuing Education Credit or professional development hours.

"Virtual Extra" Online Sessions

We’re expanding our use of the popular iPosters platform to host interactive virtual poster presentations, technical sessions, and new technical demos, which may be viewed on-demand between November 9–29. A limited selection of pre-determined in-person sessions taking place at the ASHA Convention in Boston will also be broadcasted live (slides and audio only) to the virtual platform. These sessions will be available for anyone to view; however, you can only claim continuing education credit for them if you are registered for the full ASHA Convention or virtual-only access. We are offering a reduced virtual-only registration rate so you can take advantage of this learning opportunity!

Program Topic Areas

The education program covers 31 topic areas related to the professions.

Invited and Jointly Developed Sessions

Some sessions feature presenters who have been specially invited to present on a topic by the Convention Program Committee, a Special Interest Group (SIG), or a Specialty Certification Board. Some Invited Sessions are a collaborative effort and are jointly developed by a combination of those entities.

The presenters of these sessions hold expertise on the topic or subject area of the session. Sessions featuring invited presenters are noted in the session descriptions. One-hour oral seminars are included with your registration and everyone is welcome to attend them; master classes are ticketed and carry an additional fee. SIG affiliates may be particularly interested in SIG-sponsored sessions.

Master Classes

Master Classes provide a more intensive, advanced learning opportunity for seasoned professionals or those whose work has a specialized focus. They are ticketed two-hour oral seminars that will only be presented in person at the ASHA Convention. Presentations are advanced-level and emphasize clinical applications and/or science backed by appropriate levels of evidence. Presenters, who are invited by the Convention Program Committee, demonstrate recognized expertise in their area and have experience presenting continuing professional education programs.

Pre-Convention Workshops

Kickstart your experience at the in-person ASHA Convention with pre-convention workshops that will take place on Wednesday, November 15, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $80 each and may be purchased through registration. Massachusetts residents receive a special discount and may purchase tickets for only $40 each.

Research Symposium

The Research Symposium is an annual event at ASHA's Convention where clinicians and researchers discuss current research in communication sciences and disorders.
