Igniting Innovation

We are so excited for the 2023 ASHA Convention, which will be hosted in Boston, Massachusetts—one of the most innovative cities in the nation! Join us November 16–18 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center to Ignite Innovation. The 2023 Convention Program Committee has been hard at work for nearly a year already, brainstorming ways to rekindle your clinical or scientific *spark*.

We know the importance of thriving clinicians, academics, scientists, and students. Professional and personal wellbeing has downstream effects for the quality of services our clients receive, how we inspire and instruct the next generation of professionals, and the curiosity needed to pioneer new research. If the challenges and obstacles of the past three years have left you feeling like you’re low on fuel, we are here to bring you from burned out to fired up with incredible programming brought to you by the Convention Program Committee.

The 2023 ASHA Convention covers 31 different topics areas led by 50 different topic chairs who hold expertise in their area. As you peruse this list of leaders, you’ll likely see some familiar names, however, we’re excited to also introduce some emerging leaders. We worked hard to build a committee that was diverse in many ways, including educational background, work experience, professional setting, and topic expertise to reflect the spectrum of ASHA members. We also made a few changes to topic names to better reflect current trends and best practices. For example, you’ll note that the topic previously called “Autism Spectrum Disorders” is now called “Considerations for Autistic Populations.” “Equity, Inclusion, and Cultural-Linguistic Diversity” was also adapted to add the word “inclusion.” You might find other minor differences in topic names and descriptions, so we invite you to carefully read them to determine where your proposals best fit.

In keeping with our Igniting Innovation theme, and in alignment with your feedback, we have made some changes for the 2023 ASHA Convention that you can look forward to:

  • We have some fun things planned that will help you put the “I” in innovation and discover the color of your spark!
  • We are expanding the iPosters Gallery to host technical sessions since we received so much positive feedback about the new iPosters format.
  • We are very excited to spotlight sessions submitted by you that earn our new “Changemaker” recognition!

Everyone has great ideas that can become catalysts for change and progress with some careful nurturing. The ASHA Convention is where you’ll find the kindling to spark those ideas and ignite them into something innovative for your own personal success, for the success of your clients and students, and for the benefit of the entire communication sciences and disorders community. We encourage you to think about how your work ignites innovation and welcome you to submit a proposal to present at the 2023 ASHA Convention.

We cannot wait to see you light up Boston! See you there!

Cheers,

Kelly Farquharson
